    Abstract Wadsley–Roth phase Li x Nb 9 PO 25 has been studied as a potential candidate for anode material of Li-ion batteries. Its crystal structure, which consists of ReO 3 -type blocks of NbO 6 octahedra connected with PO 4 tetrahedra, provides a good stability and performance during Li + insertion/removal. Li-ion chemical diffusion coefficient ( D chem ) in Li x Nb 9 PO 25 was determined by means of potentiostatic intermittent titration technique and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Different data treatments (classical Warburg equation or the model of an electrode system with ohmic potential drop and/or slow kinetics of the interfacial Li + ion transfer across the electrode/electrolyte interface) were used for calculation of D chem of the Li ion inside this material; their applicability is discussed in the article. D chem changes with the Li-ion doping degree, x, in Li x Nb 9 PO 25 and has a sharp minimum near the two-phase region at appr. 1.7 V vs. Li + /Li. These values of D chem in Li x Nb 9 PO 25 (∼10 −9 –10 −11 cm 2 s −1 ) were found to be in average noticeably higher than in the widely studied anode material, Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 .

    n el núcleo del Sinclinal de Almadén (Ciudad Real, España) aflora una potente sucesión vulcano-sedimentaria (Complejo Vulcano-Sedimentario de Chillón), que se apoya sobre una sucesi6n esencialmente limo-pelÍtica (Fm. Yalmayor), ambas frasnienses, en el techo de esta ultima se encontr6 el yacimiento QUIN- I 8, especialmente rico en braquiópodos y ostrácodos fósiles. La edad indicada por estos correspondería a la parte alta de la Zona de Mesotaxis asymmetricus Media hasta la Zona de M. asymmetricus Superior (parte alta de la Zona de Palmatolepis punctata a la Zona de P. hassi Inferior, en la zonación estandar de conodontos). Los ostrácodos pertenecen al llamado ecotipo (ökotyp) eifélico, e indican un biotopo periarrecifal en una plataforma marina infralitoral. Sin embargo, los braquiópodos dominantes, Pradochonetes muelleri y Douvillina alvarezi, considerados autóctonos o parautóctonos, indicarían un ambiente inf alitoral protegido, de escasa energfa y fondos blandos, por debajo del nivel de base habitual de las olas de tormenta. El resto de braquiópodos, considerados alóctonos, serían transportados al yacimiento en el curso de fuertes tormentas ocasionales; estos, junto con los ostrácodos, habrían vivido en medios más someros, probablemente cerca de pequeños parches arrecifales en laderas de volcanes submarinos (Complejo Vulcano-Sedimentario).

    Tutkimuksessani tarkastelen Frankfurtin koulukunnan kriittisen teorian edustaja Herbert Marcusea 1960-luvun lopun länsimaisen uuden vasemmiston opiskelijaradikaalien kiistel-tynä isähahmona. Hahmottelen saksalaisen kriittisen filosofian vallankumouksellisuuteen elämäkseen ja 1960-luvun lopulla opiskelijoiden liikehdintään sitoutuneen Marcusen filoso-fisesta ajattelusta ja poliittisesta toiminnasta rakentunutta poliittista figuuria kolmella erityi-sellä lukutavalla. Oletan, että Marcusen ajattelussa on taipumuksia jatkuvuuteen ja sen eri vaiheita ohjaa pyrkimys kapitalistisen järjestelmän kritiikkiin sekä kumoamiseen saksalai-sen negatiivisen filosofian tradition avulla. Näin Marcusen 1960-luvulla muun muassa opiskelijaradikaaleille esitettyjä teoreettisia näkemyksiä voidaan kokonaisvaltaisemmin ymmärtää vain filosofin vuosikymmeniä aikaisemmin laatiman tuotannon avulla. Toiseksi luen Marcusen poliittista toimintaa niin sanottuna teoriapolitiikkana. Kari Palosen ja Quen-tin Skinnerin lanseeraama teoriapoliittinen perspektiivi keskittyy teoretisoivassa toiminnas-sa ilmenevien käsitemuotoilujen, tilannetulkintojen ja normatiivisten näkemysten poliitti-seen ulosluentaan. Jo 1950-luvun alussa alkanut psykoanalyysin metapsykologialla marxi-laista yhteiskuntakritiikkiä piristänyt teoriapoliittinen kehittely mahdollisti Marcusen 1960-luvulla yrittämän kriittisen teorian uudelleenpolitisoimisen. Korostetusti teoriapoliittisella negatiivisella filosofiallaan Marcuse alkoi erkaantua vanhojen kollegojensa Max Hork-heimerin ja Theodor W. Adornon edustamasta kriittisen teorian politisointia ja politikointia vieroksuneesta linjasta. Kolmannen lukutavan muodostaa J.L. Austinin puheaktiteoria ja siitä Quentin Skinnerin ja etenkin Jacques Derridan tekemät oivallukset. Lukutavan kes-keisajatuksena on tutkia, miksi vastoin tahtoaan kulttimaineeseen nousseen Marcusen filo-sofinen argumentaatio tulkittiin niin kuin tulkittiin ja mistä Marcusen väärinymmärtäminen johtui. Teen tutkimukseni alussa uuden vasemmiston synnyn ja kehityksen, poliittisten tilantei-suuksien niukkuuden ilmapiirin ja ainoastaan Marcusen vuosien 1964-1969 figuurin tulkit-semisille keskeisimmät tekstit ja puheet huomioon ottavan demonstraation. Sen jälkeen keskityn selvittämään, millaiseen filosofiaan ja teoriapoliittiseen kehittelyyn Marcusen kiis-tanalainen asema uuden vasemmiston isänä todellisuudessa perustui. Yritän selittää, miksi kriittistä teoriaa politisoimaan ryhtynyt, mutta politikoinnin diskursseista vetäytynyt ja poli-tisoinnin diskursseihin varauksellisesti suhtautunut Marcuse toimi sillä poliittisella tyylillä kuin toimi. Painotan itse kriittisen teorian seuraamisesta ja kriittisen intellektuellin ”poliitti-sesta eetoksesta” ja sivistysdiskurssista johtuvaa tietoista rajallisuutta ja kyynisyyttä politii-kan, varsinkin retorisen puheen alueilla.

    Utopija nevar pastāvēt bez antiutopijas. Parasti tieši zemāko kārtu dēļ utopiska vide ir iespējama. ‘Neļauj man aiziet’ ir Kazuo Išiguro romāns, kurā cilvēki var dzīvot ilgāk ar klonu diskriminācijas palīdzību. Diskriminācija ir uzskatīta par svarīgu sastāvdaļu sociālajās attiecībās. Šis pētījums analizē antiutopijām rkasturīgo diskrimināciju iepriekšminētajā romānā, pētot kā diskriminācija veicina gan utopiskas gan antiutopiskas vides pastāvēšanu vienā un tajā pašā antiutopiskajā literārajā darbā. Literatūras apskats, žanra pētīšana un sociālo normu analīze ir pētnieciskās metodes, kas tika izmantotas šajā pētījumā. Pētījuma rezultāti uzrādīja tiešu saistību starp diskrimināciju un utopiskām un antiutopiskām ainām. There cannot be a utopia without a dystopia. It is usually at the expense of the lower classes that the utopic setting is possible. Kazuo Ishiguro’s ‘Never Let Me Go’ is a novel in which humans can live longer because of discriminating clones. Discrimination is seen as important part in societal relations. This paper analyses dystopian discrimination in the novel by studying how discrimination contributes to both a utopian and a dystopian setting being present in a dystopic literary work. Literature review, genre studies and the analysis of societal norms were the research methods used in this study. The results showed a direct link between discrimination and utopic and dystopic scenarios.

L’article analitza la construcció d’aquest mite en la literatura catalana del segle xix, prestant particular atenció a la derivació patriòtica que uneix paisatge, habitants i tradicions rurals amb la Catalunya real que lentament anava desapareixent com a resultat de les revolucions polítiques i industrials. El mite de la terra alta ha proporcionat símbols tan freqüentment utilitzats com ara el de la barretina (un tipus de capell) i la muntanya, així com alguns debats ben interessants sobre l’organització tradicional de la família i els contrastos entre camp-ciutat i tradició-revolució.

    Background: Nucleos(t)ide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI) toxicity may represent a threat for long-term success of combined antiretroviral therapy. Some studies have suggested a possible improvement of NRTI-related toxicity after switching to NRTI-sparing regimens. Objectives: We aimed to explore the efficacy and tolerability of switching to darunavir/ritonavir (DRV/r) plus raltegravir (RAL) while having a viral load (VL) ≤50 copies/mL in the clinical setting. Study design: Treatment-experienced HIV 1-infected patients enrolled in the ICONA Foundation Study cohort were included if they switched their current regimen to DRV/r + RAL with a HIV-RNA ≤50 copies/mL. Different definitions of virological failure (VF) and treatment failure (TF) were employed. Kaplan–Meier curves and Cox regression models were performed to estimate time to event probability. Results: We included 72 HIV-infected patients, 22 (31%) of these were female, 31 (43%) men who have sex with men (MSM) amd 15 (21%) had hepatitis co-infections. Median age was 44 (IQR: 35-50) years amd CD4 count was 389 (IQR 283-606) cells/mmc. Median follow-up time for TF was 24 (IQR 9–31) months. Twenty-five discontinuations occurred (60% simplifications); only 2 (8%) were toxicity-driven (lipid elevations). The probability of VF (confirmed VL >50 copies/mL) was estimated at 7% [95% confidence interval (CI) 1–13%] by 12 and 9% (95% CI 2–16%) by 24 months. When considering TF, we found a probability of stop/intensification/single VL > 200 copies/mL of 13% (95% CI 1–17%) and 22% (95% CI 11–33%) by 12 and 24 months. Female gender (adjusted relative hazard, ARH = 0.10; 95% CI 0.01–0.74; p = 0.024) and older age (AHR = 0.50 per 10 years older; 95% CI 0.25–0.99; p = 0.045) were associated with a lower risk of TF. A previous PI failure was strongly associated with TF (AHR = 52.6, 95% CI 3.6–779; p = 0.004). Conclusions: DRV/r + RAL is a valuable NRTI-sparing option, especially in female and older patients, with a relatively low risk of VF and good tolerability after 2 years since start in an ART-experienced population. However, previous PI-failure should be a limiting factor for this strategy.

    Il genere Thymus appartiene alla famiglia delle Lamiacaee e comprende numerose specie distribuite nell’area mediterranea. Il nome deriva dal greco “δίμοσ” (profumo) per sottolineare l’intenso e gradevole aroma che la pianta produce. Secondo altri autori il nome trae origine dalla parola egiziana “tham”, che si riferisce ad una pianta profumata usata per le imbalsamazioni. In Italia il Pignatti descrive 17 specie di timo, delle quali quelle maggiormente interessanti da un punto di vista erboristico sono: T. vulgaris L. (timo comune), T. capitatus (L.) Hoffman et Link (timo capitato), T. serpyllum L. (timo serpillo) e T. zygis L. (timo rosso). Allo stato spontaneo sono presenti varie forme di timo, differenti, oltre che per le caratteristiche morfologiche, anche per la variabilità nella composizione degli oli essenziali. Sulla base delle caratteristiche degli oli vengono generalmente classificati 7 chemiotipi di timo, non interamente riconosciuti dalla F.U. Il timo è una specie tipica degli ambienti caldo-temperati mediterranei, ma è presente anche nelle zone orientali dell’Europa e nel centro-sud dell’arcipelago delle Baleari. In Italia, si trova allo stato spontaneo lungo le zone costiere, nelle pendici assolate e rocciose e in luoghi aridi in prossimità del mare. Si ritrova in ambienti con altitudine variabile da 0 a 1.500 metri s.l.m..

    Abstract The scattered electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopic data for binary sulfur–nitrogen (S,N) radicals have been compiled and critically assessed.Many of these are inorganic rings or cages.For each species, possible equilibrium structures in the gas phase and the EPR hyperfine coupling (hfc) constants have been calculated with DFT using the B3LYP functional and basis sets of triple-ζ (or better) quality.Good agreement is obtained between calculated and measured values for the well characterized [S3N2]+ , a planar π-radical for which the s-component of the orbitals is likely to be reasonably independent of minor geometrical changes between gas-phase and condensed-phase states.The cage compounds [S4N4]− and [S4N5]−2 , for which reliable experimental EPR spectra have been reported, show larger variation between calculated and measured hfc, as a consequence of the dependence of the s orbital content of the molecular orbitals on small structural changes.The very large disagreements between the DFT calculated and experimentally claimed hfc constants for [NS] , [SNS] and [S4N4]−3 in condensed phases lead us to question their assignment.Among binary S,N radicals, 33S hfc data has only been reported for [S3N2]+ (through isotopic enrichment).These values were essential for the correct identification of the EPR spectra of this important radical, which previously was misassigned to other species.Our results suggest that 33S data will be equally important for the correct identification of the EPR spectra of other binary S,N species, many of which are cyclic systems, e.g.[S3N3] , [S4N3] and[S4N5] .

    The whispering gallery modes (WGM) resonators are based on spherical objects, which are made from optically transparent materials, and are capable of maintaining circulating optical waves, inside the sphere, using total internal reflection. If there is a monochromatic light source which supplies the sphere with a constant intensity, the wave moving along the perimeter of sphere starts to constructively interfere. In this case the resonance happens, which is called whispering gallery mode (WGM). The current work explores the possibility of using temperature changes to measure polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) WGM microsphere resonator quality factor (Q) and thermal expansion parameters. Different diameter and material spheres are used in the experiments for equipment testing and calibrating. The fallowing work opens up opportunities to create a simple and low cost Q factor measurement systems, that could be useful in laboratories that are working with low cost polymer WGM resonators.

    AbstractPasture-based livestock agriculture is a major source of greenhouse gas (GHG) nitrous oxide (N2O). Although a body of research is available on the effect of urine patch N or fertiliser N on N2O emissions, limited data is available on the effect of fertiliser N applied to patches of urinary N, which can cover up to a fifth of the yearly grazed area. This study investigated whether the sum of N2O emissions from urine and a range of N fertilisers, calcium ammonium nitrate (CAN) or urea ± urease inhibitor ± nitrification inhibitor, applied alone (disaggregated and re-aggregated) approximated the N2O emission of urine and fertiliser N applied together (aggregated). Application of fertiliser to urine patches did not significantly increase either the cumulative yearly N2O emissions or the N2O emission factor in comparison to urine and fertiliser applied separately with the emissions re-aggregated. However, there was a consistent trend for approximately 20% underestimation of N2O loss generated from fertiliser and urine applied separately when compared to figures generated when urine and fertiliser were applied together. N2O emission factors from fertilisers were 0.02%, 0.06%, 0.17% and 0.25% from urea ± dicyandiamide (DCD), urea + N-(n-butyl) thiophosphoric triamide (NBPT) + DCD, urea + NBPT and urea, respectively, while the emission factor for urine alone was 0.33%. Calcium ammonium nitrate and urea did not interact differently with urine even when the urea included DCD. N2O losses could be reduced by switching from CAN to urea-based fertilisers.
